HM Queen Elizabeth II
It was with great sadness that we received the news yesterday of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The St Monica Trust sends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family at this difficult time and to all residents and colleagues who feel her loss.
As I reflect on her life and example, I cannot help but admire the qualities that she displayed during her 70-year reign – those of unwavering duty, unqualified kindness and a deeply formed character which was anchored in her strong, personal faith.
Many in our community, both residents and colleagues, will remember her coronation and we have, of course, fond memories of recently celebrating her Platinum Jubilee. It is important for us all to take some time to reflect on her life and draw strength from her example.
This will be a disorientating period for us all. We must all support each other. The Queen has always been there – through the ups and downs of our lives - both national and personal – and been the bedrock and foundation of our country for 70 years. Let us not move on too quickly, but stop, reflect and appreciate her life and service before looking to the future with the hope and optimism with which she lived her life.
