MayFest - A festival for the ages
Samba drumming, May Pole Dancing and a carnival procession are not the typical types of activities you’d expect to find at a retirement community.
But this was just some of the entertainment enjoyed by visitors to the Trust’s Sandford Station retirement community over the May Day Bank Holiday.
Amazing performances
Mayfest...we have lift off! from Wyldwood Arts on Vimeo.
A festival for all ages, Mayfest saw the North Somerset retirement community open its doors to people from the surrounding area to celebrate all the resident-led activities and intergenerational work that takes place there.
Retirement community manager, Will Ryan said: " This festival was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our residents’ many talents, as well as enjoy some amazing performances from the Bristol Old Vic Professional Young Artists, the Bristol Pre-conservatoire and the Original Spinners."
We want Sandford Station to be an open and inviting place, with communal facilities and activities that bring together people from different generations. Events like Mayfest are a great way of helping us achieve this and we hope to see all our new friends come back to see us again soon
Everywhere you looked people were smiling
Mayfest was organised by community arts organisation, Wyldwood Arts. Creative Producer, Rachel Adams said: “MayFest was a brilliant day and we had more than 450 people attend from St Monica Trust and the wider community.
“There were over 100 performers and facilitators from various art forms and we were delighted to be able to celebrate all the wonderful relationships developing between the different ages.
“So many people said that they enjoyed the day and everywhere you looked people were smiling and enjoying themselves - so we think it was a definitely a success!”
Thank you to the wonderful Wyldwood Arts team for creating this video.
