Signpost 2 (27 April)
We're back with our second issue of Signpost, our weekly email highlighting fantastic online resources for older people during the coronavirus period. Didn't receive a copy? Read it here.
Good afternoon,
Welcome to the second issue of Signpost, St Monica Trust's regular newsletter sharing activities, opportunities and resources that we hope will interest and entertain you.
This week we're preparing you for International Dance Day and International Dawn Chorus Day, as well as the anniversary of one of Nelson Mandela’s most famous speeches. We had a great response to last week's issue and hope that you enjoy our selection of activities this week. We welcome you to get in touch by email with your comments and suggestions for future issues on communityimpact@stmonicatrust.org.uk.
REFLECT
- Our Pastoral Care Coordinator for Monica Wills House and the Garden House, Ruth Gillings shares a thought for the day entitled “Reflection on a Rainbow.”
CONNECT
- Are you missing the opportunities to connect with Nature? 3rd May is International Dawn Chorus Day and we've pulled together a few different ways to appreciate it, without the 4am start!
LEARN
- Do you remember Bristol before Castle Park? Here is a fantastic film from 1959 which explores the redevelopment of Bristol’s city centre after the blitz. It’s great to see some familiar landmarks but also to appreciate how much the city has changed.
- 46 years ago this month Nelson Mandela gave one of his most famous speeches. Now widely regarded as one of the greatest of the 20th century, you can read and hear it on the Guardian website.
- If you have time, why not try and regrow some of these foods from the scraps you might usually throw away.
DO
- 29th April is International Dance Day which promotes dance in all its forms. We've brought together some of our favourite online dance classes specifically for older adults.
INFORM
- The Bristol Support Hub has been set up by a range of charities including Age UK Bristol, Bristol After Stroke and St Monica Trust to help older people and their families cope with the impact of the coronavirus.
FUN
- Tune in to hear Howard's End and Notting Hill actor Samuel West recite twice daily poems as part of his Pandemic Poetry series.
