Project name: Ageing Well: Empowering Through Employment & Volunteering

The Ageing Well programme is a pioneering initiative to transform Bath & North East Somerset into an inclusive, supportive and accessible environment where everyone can age well. This new project, part of the Ageing Well team, will work to remove barriers to employment, support businesses in becoming age-friendly employers, and create accessible volunteering opportunities, all of which will encourage healthy and meaningful ageing.

The project aligns with the World Health Organisation’s Age-Friendly Communities framework to foster an inclusive environment that values the contributions of older adults.

The project will deliver workshops and training to challenge ageism and negative stereotypes, promote multigenerational working, and highlight the importance and value of older workers. In collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), targeted support for older jobseekers will be provided. Additionally, an Age-Friendly Business scheme, starting with age-friendly training for local transport providers, will be launched. This initiative will embed Ageing Well principles into local businesses and organisations, creating a ripple effect of positive and lasting change.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support from St Monica Trust, which will help us expand the Ageing Well B&NES project. This funding enables us to empower older people with skills, confidence, and opportunities in volunteering and employment—while also working with local employers to create inclusive, age-friendly workplaces. Together, we’re building a community where everyone can thrive, whatever their age.
